Re: glow plug broke

Leave it alone till it blows the center out. That will put the junk outside the engine harmlessly. Then you can maybe back it out with an easy out without further trouble.

In preparation, drip a few drops of good penetrant on the threads every few days.

Be careful with easy outs. They are way hard and near impossible to drill if you break it in the plug.

Does the phrase, "zilch to unbelievable" mean anything to you?

That would require removing the head and taking it to a machine shop with the plasma setup to remove the broken part.

Yup, broken easy outs are a disaster.

In 1969-70, I finished out my last 14 months in the Air Force working in the auto hobby shop at Offut as a floor mechanic. We had 24 stalls equipped with a basic tool set that guys on the base could rent to work on their cars. More specialized tools had to be checked out from the tol desk.

We got to where if anybody came up asking for an easy out we told them they couldn't have it until a floor mechanic checked out their situation. Almost all of these were when guys tried to cure a leaky valve cover gasket by tightening the bolts. They'd put some torque on one of those little bolts and it would go "TINK". They would usually drill the bolt a little off center, drive the easy out in until t was wedged against the block, then the easy out would go "TINK". Not a whole lot of options after that.

It's a Ford. What do you expect? Everything works, nothing works right.

My favorite ford engineering story is that in the 80's the headlight switch used to catch fire. Their fix was to put a thermal breaker in the switch so if it overheated, the headlights went out.

Why not just put in a decent switch?
