Re: Gluvit or... ?

One more question -

What should I use to replace bad or missing rivets? Small stainless steel screws & locking nuts?

I could also try to find blind rivets I suppose... I think West Marine has them.

And when I install them, what compound should I put on them to seal them?

(I know, I have lots of questions)

You will be better served staying away from Worst Marine and either find a Grainger catalog or look for a Fastenal in your area and the internet has been a better place too.

Dave, rivets are prefered but SS screws will work too. I used SS screws on mine. Use the marine 5200 sealer around the screws when you install and then Gluvit all of it.
There are somy guys that don't like the screws, heck they don't like the ZC, but it has been done by many guys with no problems. If its good enough for them, its good enough for me.
On the ZC primer, you may want to very gently sand that before applying the base primer. I actually just used a rag and wiped it down. The ZC has a "gritty" surface that you will want to smooth down. A rag did the trick for me.

I guess I should move this to a "project" forum... haha!

I got the Duplicolor Self-Etching Primer and hit the bare spots today with "a light dusting"... that's some awesome stuff! I ran out, but only have the transom to do, so I went back and picked up another can... I'll do that in the morning.

Aside from the boat itself, we've been putting in a lot of time refurbishing the trailer... got it almost done today. Primed, painted, new wiring and lights, and made new bunks. Now we just need a jack, winch and fenders.

Can't wait to get this done and get out on the water... maybe we'll be havin' duck for Thanksgiving! :)
