Ok so I am looking for a project boat now that i am done with the alumacraft FD, I am looking for a larger boat with flat floors this time, I am fully expecting to have to redo the floors and transom so I have been reading up on how to protect the floors and transom from future water damage, my question is Couldnt i just use gloveit on the plywood to seal it up? I have never worked with fiberglass before and am a little afraid i would screw it up, but i have used gluvit and its pretty easy to use. So if anyone knows a reason why i could not do the transom and the floors this way please let me know!

Re: gluvit question

Yes you can use gluvit on wood but...... it is not as cost effective and will break the bank doing a whole deck.

Fiberglass is much cheaper

Re: gluvit question

Andy you can use epoxy to seal the wood. If you want to use the mat you can or even fiberglass to gain extra life/strength. The Gluvit will work but as Bob said it will get expensive. Besides, gluvit has zc in it to help etch into aluminum and it would be a waste on wood.

Re: gluvit question

You can get all the info you need on Gluvit here.

http://www.marinetex.com/gluvit.html

It is basically epoxy resin with some special flex characteristics. It is expensive compared to basic epoxy. The methods used by the guys here on the forum for restoring their decks have been tried and trued. Using Poly or Epoxy resin with Mat and cloth will be your best bet to ensure your new deck will last for years to come.

I'm just sayin...:D

Re: gluvit question

The only cloth I used was over the seams after the deck was installed in the boat.
