Re: GM 350 TBI Mystery Issue, Any help out here

Check any and all grounds first. There is one at the thermo. housing, check for frayed wires. I have a 93 here that died one day. it acted like the timing was off a tooth, doggy under load, didnt want to idle. It finally got to the point where it wouldnt run at all unless you kept the throttle pinned to the floor. I was getting ready to replace timing chain and gears and a friend told me to replace the coolant temp sensor. HUH? I thought he was nuts, he said nope just do it. Well for $7 bucks wth. It runs like a champ now, he explained after that in 93 they really dont have much for computer controls but they are notorious for the cts to go bad. When it does it reverts to the default setting in the comp of -140 degrees and dumps fuel to compensate. I`m not saying thats the prob but you can pull plugs and take a quick look, if they are wet I would give it a shot. G/L

I had a 250 mile trip yesterday, 2 times the check engine light popped on and then went back off. I'll get the codes read and see what this says.

Yes it is a TBI, and I did say carb, It looks like a big 2 barrel carb to me so thats what I call it.

Thanks for everyones input, I'll be checking off all the different suggestions trying to find the issue.

It would be great if it was as simple as a $7 temp sensor. I'll let you know.

under your steering wheel you will see the obd connector there is 2 rows of pins .....the upper row the last 2 on the right if you jump these two with paper clip the codes will flash the check engine light....like this flash pause flash flash = code 12 means normal system working right ...it repeats three times then goes on to any other stored codes ...example flash flash pause flash flash =code22 does it three times then moves to another stored code if there is one if not goes back to code 12
ONCE the pins are jumped turn the key just >ON< DO NOT TURN TO START

Pull off the vacuume line to the EGR valve plug it and try it, I hav seen the spring in the valve get weak and it will open too early causing an off idle stumble or bog.

thats a pain in the butt. he could just go to walmart and grab the obd-1 tester for $30 and it will run through all the checks for him including the power steering, brake check, etc. and do the engine running codes too.

didnt think you could check the engine running codes with the paperclip though? I know with the walmart tester you can.
