The lowers are pressed in w/o bolts, I assume the upper rivit replacement bolts are strong enough? It looks like all the hardware comes w an upper kit. That spring shot right past my face as I forced my stuck door closed and i'm sure would have knocked out teeth or my eye if it had hit me. I still have it in the door pocket, but cannot seem to re-install it trying by myself. It seems it must be inserted w the hinges undone and the door hanging or something, and another set of hands.

All I remember about the bolts is the difficulty of finding grade 9 bolts at 6pm.

Insofar as the spring goes, I found that I liked not having the spring in place. Sometimes it's a hassle to have to hold the door shut, other times it's nice to be able to stop the door where you want it i.e. not slamming into the vehicle next to you at Walmart.

dlngr, I changed the pins on the door hinges years ago but not before they were badly worn. It was at a time I was refuseing to put any more money into this truck and thinking of tradeing, selling, getting another; about the same time the economy went south. The pin holes in the flanges were egg shaped and as I "fixed" it, the coilspring shot out and almost took my head off!! I tried to put it back in, but gave up.

Those springs should be removed first!! Sorry I forgot about those-the worst part of the job. They make a compressor for those little springs,I got mine from either Snapon or Mac tools.
