what I think happened(since they show excessive wear) is the spacers above and below the spider gears were very badly worn & let the spiders miss mesh and bind which blew the carrier housing apart.
I changed the lube (got it from the dealer) which it requires a full synthetic. Wish I still had the bottle I don't think he sold me the right stuff. I didn't read it closely since I believed they would know what it required.

I grew up working under my dads cars. I told my dad I would NEVER do my owm mechanical work. With 5 engines you don't really have a choice unless you make $$$.
How many miles are on the truck? I have your same truck and I'm hoping I can prevent something like this on my truck.
