Well... I am taking my boat to a smaller lake to get a decent test in without all the chop of lake Ontario. We're heading to Bass Lake (Just outside of Orillia, ON) for a weekend then next month we're off to Lake Nosbonsing (east of North Bay,ON)

I should have my smart tabs installed by then on my 14' Lonestar runabout with a Merc 402 40HP. They have not come in the mail yet. But will arrive in a few days.

1) I plan on redoing the steering cables. Some of the pulleys no longer turn and the cables is falling apart due to age. I purchased 100' of coated steel cable (For clothsline?) and a bunch of brass pulleys. Is there any rule of thumb or things I should know before I tear all the cables out and replace them?

2) Is it ok to extend my fuel lines and move the battery and fuel tank up under the bow? My boat sits very very low in the rear end when in the water. My engine is quite heavy I guess. I thought this might even out the weight.

3) Should I be able to tow a tuber or wakeboarder or is this not recommended?

you should be able to tow a tube or wakeboard, we use to ski with a lot small engine than that. 14' you will probably only need 50' of cable. you start at the steer drum, then work to both sides. here's directions on threading the drum.

This might extend the vacation . . . but I would wait on item #2 until you get some test data from the SmartTab install. Remember, one change at a time ;)
