Re: Gold Rush starts this Friday!

Were the terms of the lease ever revealed last year? It seems to me that the owner was getting paid a percentage of the gold mined in lieu of outright payment. Otherwise why would Fred show up as the owners' rep and try to take over except to protect the owners' interest. Fred is what my Momma called a "slick operator"

Also, last year the Hoffmans sold everything they had (and borrowed) to finance the mine according to script and web site. This year they sold everything they had (again) to finance this years effort according to the script and web site. How many "everything they had"s do they have? I'm beginning to think there is more scripting than reality.

Something else, they all had new trucks and campers (newish) when they departed from home this year. Last year most of them had beaten up old vehicles and campers. How do they all buy newer vehicles and campers when they were all flat broke?

There's GOLD in them thar TV reality shows!!!!

When your broke and have lots of credit, it is easy to get more. When you don't have any loans, don't owe money, it is hard to get credit.

What a sob

What a sob

I watched Gold rush the other day and I will tell you, I would have a hard time not having that Ba****d of a claim jumper not having a fatal accident in the mine. He knew last year that he would get the claim but let the guys get to the gold and then came in and stole the claim from them. I hope the guys do well this year and I really hope that SOB does get whats coming to him.

I think you are right. It seems that the more you watch one of these shows the more it becomes apparent that the stuff is "staged" . When that happens it just becomes no more than a high school skit performed by non actors trying to be actors, Also its impossible to find out just how much these non actors are getting paid. The "kate plus eight" scandal reveled the fact that millions are being paid much to to the dislike of the history channel I'm sure. This takes away from the dilemmas that these shows all seem to have. Ice road truckers is a good example. What are they going to do when one or more of these drivers who seem to do the impossible gets killed? Close the program? I say its mainly "Hollywood"

I really don't agree. Granted the show is edited just like any other programs on tv to make it more exciting. But I don't think things are staged. Anyone who allows a tv crew to be up there Azz 24/7 deserves to be paid. I wouldn't expect them to do it for free. As far as Ice road truckers and other risky jobs, the risk is there all the time, not just while being filmed. If one of them died doing there job, it would just make for better ratings. Look at the crab fishing shows, anytime there is an injury or a boat sinks it is advertised for three weeks before it airs. The fact that all these shows are based on dangerous jobs and financially risky also is what draws people to them to begin with. I don't know many people that wouldn't want to find a few million dollars in the ground, especially in todays economy and with the price of gold gone through the roof. Hell, I'd go out there and dig for a season. I know I could do a better job than those idiots.

This makes me want to get a good metal detector and some hip boots and start walking some of the creek beds around here. This entire area at one time had the first major gold finds. Reed Gold mine near charlotte is just one.I wonder how legal it would be.Maybe take my flip camera and make a movie

A letter to Fred the Claimjumper

Dear Fread SOB,

It is to our knowledge that you are now the claim deed holder of the Glory Hole that contains millions of dollars worth of gold. Due to the large amount that you plan to mine, we (The Internal Revenue Service) are planning to establish a living quarters for 12 of our best agents at your site. Now have a nice day....

I can't blame these folks for trying. They have a dream and are trying to fulfill it. Hat's off.

However, how they are going about it just smells of some laziness. They just never seems to have enough equipment.

Has any one of them ever heard of a shovel? (Man powered, not diesel)

Re: Gold Rush starts this Friday!

I think they are trying to go about it the right way but they cannot get out of their own way, I think the theory that the gold is under several 10's of feet of overburden is sound, the problem is that they can't remember to pay bills(on the claim) and they are complete rookies to gold mining(I'm no expert but I did sleep in a Holiday Inn Express). For me though I wonder whats keeping the big corporations from tackling this same dilemma? If there is so much Gold to be had there has to be a reason why Newmont or any of the other massive Gold mining corporations are not up there. I can't disagree with your assertion of laziness, but the scale by which they are attempting Gold mining may be beyond their capabilities.

What you said is very profound.

They are going at the goal on a "corporate" level. Corporations are not there because of the payback equation.

They cannot sustain that and the rewards fall far short of a payoff.

I think they need to go back to basics and just man a "shovel". Or, at least 1/3 of the equipment/people they have now.

It's basic. If your expenses override your income-you sink. Duh!

I think they are doing exactly what the producer/director of that "reality TV" show tells them to do.

Lipp, the big companies will not get into the placer gold game as they got burnt fairly often.
Placer gold mining is a crap shoot at most, with hard rock mining you diamond drill "X" amount of holes, look at the core samples, see the depth and dispertion of minerals and basicly map what's below you that's worth mining (3D).

These start out as penny and nickle stocks for a junior company till one of the big boys get interested and buys them out, and thanks to deep pockets a mine is born.

Anyone heard of Bre-X?

I do not disagree. They (miners) all seem to be healthier this season.

I'll say again, I think "Deadliest Catch" while thoroughly "TV'd", remains very dangerous.
