I have to say this is a great forum for advice and help but one question that didn,t get answered clearly is: should the cavitation plate be level with the bottom of the hull or not?
This engine of mine is new to me so can anyone tell me if it is a good or not so good motor.
Johnson Seahorse 75 circa 1981.

BigOldBoy.... You'll get various answers to that question due to the fact that the position of the cavitation plate can vary if racing, or due to various designs of boats etc.

However, for all around boating, the location of the cavitation plate should be approximately 3/4" below the keel at the transom, not level with or above the bottom/keel of the boat, nor further down than 1" below the keel.
