Looking for abit more power on my dingy, currently have a 2hp yamaha,
the dingy will only take a outboard that weighs around 10kg or 4hp, and shortshaft is a must.

So im looking for something thats around 3 or 4 horsepower, but is also very light, been browsing around ebay trouble is hardly any listings specify weight. although i have just seen a 3.3hp which states its weight is 8kg, ideal really but cost out of my range.

also ages doesnt matter prefer an old used 2stroke as there lighter & cheaper anyway.

i dont really know much about different types of engines and there spec, would appreciate some input/advice thanks..

Re: good light 3-4hp outboard?

E/J 4 deluxe weighs approx. double his maximum weight spec.
great motors but his transom probably not up to it

I don't know if a 10KG 4 HP exists, but if it does, it will be a single cylinder 2 stroke, and it won't have a shifting lower unit.

his 2HP must be near or over the 10KG limit

i have just seen a 3.3hp which states its weight is 8kg,

misprint or b/s I suspect

18kg maybe

The 3 hp E/J from about 52-67 is 34lbs no cumbersome external tank 360degree reverse. A little heavy but routine parts are readily available and very simple to work on.Smooth and reasonably quiet. There are even some that fold. After 63 are 50:1 mix.

Find yourself a late 70's/early 80's Johnson/Evinrude that looks like this http://www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk/images/pics/BMS138_1.jpg I spent my childhood beating the heck out of one of them. They run awesome, smooth 2 cylinder performance and weigh next to nothing. The picture appears to be of a long shaft model but you get the gist.
