I have a Goodyear 5hp 2 spark plug motor that will run fine until the float in the carburetor goes all of the way down.

ALSO any info on the motor would be nice!

It would. If the float goes all the way down, there's no fuel in the cup.

I think we need more information on this. How do you know the float hits bottom? Is this an engine with a built-in fuel tank? What are you doing when the engine stalls? Running the engine on a boat in the water? Testing?

What model is your outboard?

We can help, but we need more information from you.

Re: Goodyear 5hp stalling after float hits bottom

When I say that the float hits bottom I mean that it goes all the way down that it can go (outside view). The engine stalls all the time about ten seconds when at idle to about five seconds at full speed. I have tried a lot of things from dumping a hole bottle of carb cleaner in the gas tank to taking the gas line off and blowing into it (something came out!) also tried hitting the carb with the rubber side of a hammer. Built in fuel tank??? it's on the motor if thats what u mean motor in on a boat in a lake but it's up north so I don't know the model/scerial number all that I know is that is a old Goodyear that has two spark plugs

CATransplant: I like your boat but mine is better it is an old river boat that is tared and caulked!

Re: Goodyear 5hp stalling after float hits bottom

It's best to stick with a single thread on your outboard and its current problem. In your second thread, you now say that the outboard is leaking fuel. Where is it leaking? Be as specific as possible.

Why don't you start from the beginning, and lay out the whole problem you're having, in a detailed way. It's leaking, but you don't say where. It's stalling when the float sinks, but you don't say how you know the float is going down. You can't see it under normal conditions.

Stop pounding on your outboard.

If you will, as I suggested earlier, give us as much information as possible, all in one place, we can probably help you. I won't respond to your second thread, in hopes you will put all your information in this one.

You need to go through the fuel system from tank to carb.If the float drops
there is not enough gas flowing into the carb. Most likely it has sat for years and the system needs a total cleaning.
