Re: Got a 77 deckcraft boat with omc 175 hp motor in it and just got it running and d
Your outdrive is a electricshift. There two coils in the bottom of the outdrive that engage to make it move the front one is for forward and naturally the other one is for reverse. Go look inside the engine compartment and look where the intermediate housing goes out the transom there will be two wires on the right side as you look at the housing. Those are the wires that feed the power to your coils. If you follow those wires back toward the engine you will find them connected with spade connectors. Pull one of the wires apart carefully and check it for resistance, should be between 4.5 to 6 ohms on each one. Remeber to pull one check it and then replace it to check the next one. I am not trying to be funny but you can;t mix them up or it will shift backwards. If you have the right resistance then your coils are good if not the outdrive will have to be repaired. If you check out fine then remove the green wire ( I believe that is the for forward) turn the key on and check to see if you have 12 volts at the connection if not then you have a problem with the swith that sits behind the shift lever.
