cpj: If you are meat hunting you should have taken the doe. Let the 1 1/2 old bucks grow up. What’s that thing score 50 inches? If you want to take big deer you have to have the discipline to let the small ones go by and only harvest the 3 1/2 year old and up bucks. I have passed probably 25 bucks already this year. Some in the 125- 130 class.

Re: got a deer this morning(pic)

Booner, I have the discipline to pass up deer, depending on the area that I am hunting. The land that I took him on is only 30 acres and every one else that is around that land will shoot any thing, so I wasnt gong to pass him up.The doe had probabaly only lost its spots a few weeks ago, it was tiny. And not to mention that everyone around this land is feeding them corn, as I discoverd when field dressing him, so I dont have much of a chance on that land. Now on my uncles place where I know that there are monsters and not very many people hunt (or bait) the deer, Ill wait all year for the 160 class deer I saw a few weeks ago. And besides, my thinking is that any deer I take with my bow is a trophy, buck ,doe or whatever.Besides I dont bow hunt to kill deer.If you dont understand that then I feel sorry for you.

cpj: I live on 52 acres and grow some pretty good deer every year. Some in the 140 class. Don’t need to bait deer in Kansas, as there is a sufficient amount of food everywhere. I hunt some private land and some public land but will only take deer in the 150 class 3 1/2 year old and up. We a blessed to have large deer in Kansas. I have killed some book heads.

nos42 cross bows are illegal during bow season here unless you have a handicap that prevents you from drawing a bow.You can use them during gun season though. So to answer your question, no I havent.

Well after practicing for a year at the bow range I tried it one time in the 70’s. Hats off to ya cpj.
It’s a whole different world of hunting. A really cool one I might add. One of the gals that works for Mrs.Link hunts Bear along with her husband with a bow! They both got one last year. Talk about good jerky!
But then the farts/passed wind also got besides the bears, two deer (150 pd class) and two Elk! All bow hunting!
2005 was a great summer for BBQ's at thier place! :D :D

btw you n Goose Lady lookin good! ;)

cpj, I hear you. We (the neighbors) have about 500 or so acres that we started letting the small bucks go. I let 5 go myself last year but this year we can't even see a buck. Too many jackers and road hunters but we will continue to let them go on this land. When we hunt the county or state land you better take any buck you see if you are lucky enough to see one.
