What a pita that one is. Been searching for a "cleaner" to remove it, but the two I downloaded scan, find it, then want me to purchase their product to clean it. I just want this one parasite off. Anyone know if a free cleaner for "internet optimizer"? Spybot doesn't see it.

Are you running Windows 2000 or XP? If so you might try running the Microsoft spyware cleaner.

Try Ad-aware free download or Yahoos free anti-spy and see if it picks up on it.

You can also hit some of the adware/spyware forums that are out on the net. Most of them have the complete step by step process of removing that crud.

With some of that stuff you may have to go deep into the code, soft booting, etc to get to it before it reloads itself each time at startup.

If nothing else, you might have to do a system restore to go backwards before you got it. Look into some additional firewall protections, different quarantines to prevent it from hitting again.

Best of luck!!

Re: Got the dreaded "Internet Optimizer" browser hijacker

Its on a unprotected win ME machine. Normally I don't let the kids on it but they were playing web games and such and picked up this little gem. Guess I'll have to add Mcafee and upgrade to win xp (winME is old!)

I did find instructions on how to manually yank it from the registry, but software is always easier. I'll try the options posted.

Thanks!

Mark

I'm sure you've already seen this page (has removal tool), otherwise, it's regedit and yank it out , kicking and screaming manually.

Link

Try the restore function!!!

It usually works if it has not been in the system too long.

Bob

It's a war out there in cyberspace and you need a variety of weapons to win.

Here is a list of downloadable products that will clean for free:

Spybot
Ad-aware
Spyware doctor
A squared
CC cleaner
Anti virus & trojan
Trend micro (online only) - probably the best.

Use them all.

Or better yet use Mozilla Firefox for your browser.

I don't even bother with adaware/spyware scanning anymore.
