I have a garmin oregon 400c handheld gps and I am trying to find some maps for it. I have the bluecharts and citynavigator from garmin already but some of my boating takes me to some very small roads to find some small ramps in rivers and lakes aaround here, and they are not detailed enough.

Does anyone know where to get very detailed rural maps. I do not mind paying for them, but I do not know where to look for them.
Thanks for your help

Some Garmins will let you download from Google Maps.

Re: gps maps

I'm looking for similar info for my Garmin 276C. I wonder where the best price/value for maps is. Please be sure to post any info you find out as I will be following this thread.

Thanks,

I have city nav, bluechart and topo maps on mine and the topo give the best rural detail but i would reconsider spending all this dough on maps and go get yourself a cheap $100 tom tom for the car.

Yep... the marine maps can be very good for city's towns etc but all I've ever seen are lacking so far as rural roads go.

Even boat ramps.... My blue charts and navionics both do not show half of the boat ramps here... and this is a well used waterway running through a mid-sized city.

Re: gps maps

Mapsource's City Navigator (North America) has very detailed rural maps. They ought to call it Micro Navigator. Heck, it even has my driveway.

Forget those cheap units like Tom Tom, etc. if you want anything like rural detail or lake detail. And forget getting anything very useful free or even cheap.

I have a jeep and go on alot of rural roads and i have city nav on my colorado with the detail on max and my tom tom has more detail of the trails i drive(most 4x4 only). the garmin Topo maps do have more rural rd/trail detail than the tom tom(not much) while your right about no lake capability if you already have an oregon c with marine maps i was just saying a permanent mounted Tom Tom in the car may be more convenient for less than the price of one mapset from garmin.

Re: gps maps

tom tom ones can be had for about 120 +. A map for your state and surrounding states is about $50. You can also download speed camera maps and other various things for a fee.

I was not happy to find out you cant download any Lake maps for on the water.
