My Garmin GPS shuts off when any of my pumps are turned on,bilge or washdown. I realize it's a voltage drop...any cure?

Re: GPS shut off

It is either ground or power. Try pulling the power/ground from somewhere else. Could also be corroded wires. I would bet that pulling them from a different source will cure your problem, may even have to go all the way back to the battery.

Re: GPS shut off

Good advice.

You could try checking a couple of things.

1. Check the voltage and record what it drops to.
2. Measure the voltage from the neg. terminal of the battery to the neg. wire going to the GPS. When you turn on the pumps does it go above 0 volts? If so you have a voltage drop in the ground and you might want to check out the ground wiring and/or replace the ground wire with something heavier. (There is probably one wire from the battery neg. to the fuse panel area.)
3. Do the same measurement between the battery pos. terminal and the power lead to the GPS. If it has a voltage on it when you turn on the pumps you have a voltage drop on the power lead side. Check connections there and/or look at a heavier wire.

Record and let us know what your measurements are. It will be interesting.
