GPS speedo's

Looking for one in my bass boat. I know nothing of these. What would you folks suggest and how much $$$$'s am I looking at coughing up? Are they easy to install? Thanks in advance.

I just bought a Garmin 168 Sounder. GPS/Sonar unit. Kinda pricey but it looks like a pretty nice outfit. I gave $650.00 for the unit and Blue Chart software. Lots and lots of info if you can figure it out. I can hook my laptop to it and then have a 13 inch color GPS screen. Gonna try it all out in two weeks in Fla.

Turned 54 yesterday. What's that got to do with a gps unit? Got a Cobra GPS 100 for my birthday. It's a handheld unit so it's not limited to the bass boat or truck. I have been trying to compare the 'affordable' units. Cobra is new to the gps market, but the few review I have found rate it above average. It seems comparable to the $100 to $120 range Garmins. My wife, who is a much better value shopper than I, bought it at Circuit City for $99.99. I/we don’t have the money to purchase those $300 plus units. There are plenty of models around. Some with and some without mapping screens, handheld, fixed mounts, different screen resolutions etc. etc.<br /><br />Do yourself a favour and check which one has the right features for you - buying an overkill will cost you a pile of bux - to no use.<br /><br />If your needs are modest you could get yourself a good deal from somebody upgrading.

TexSkeeter150,<br /><br />Ther are plenty of units available here on the iboats Mega Mall. Check it out.<br /><br />Since it will be your first GPS, I would suggest a handheld. It will have many uses other than your boat.

Tex,<br /><br />I've had an ETrex for a couple of years now. Base model ($100). I have velcro on the back to mount on dash of car and bought a marine mount from Garmin for the boat. With the DC adaptor I'm all set. It does everything I need. I use it with waypoints from TopoUSA which is a $50 software program and some fishing hotspot maps that show coordinates. It also gives me true speed readings which are quite different than those from boats speedo or paddlewheel on fishfinder. This time of year Itake it in the woods to hunt. Couldn't be happier-but I'm simple Good luck and God Bless.
