OK I have 4 grease guns 2 are cheap ones that I through out tonight had 4 different types of grease in each one. Can I just use this in ujoints trailer bearings and gimbal bearings?

I have found the type of grease is not near as impotant as how often you use it.

Re: Grease what to use

Boat trailer wheel bearing grease is really important (grease such as yours that is specifically made for marine trailer bearings) as are Bearing Buddies, or special axles that have special grease channels....Ranger Trail for one. If you have a grease (or can get one) especially made for these trailer bearings then go for it.

Problem is, 99.9% of the trailers carrying boats get their axles submerged when launching/loading. Friction and heat of driving down the highway increases the temperature of the axle (and all it's components, including bearings) and by the time you get to where you want to launch there is usually quite a temperature difference between that assembly and the water where you launch.

So, you back that hot axle down the ramp and into the water and walla. The axle cools and in doing so, everything in it shrinks, including any air trapped therein......well your axle is submerged in water and all of a sudden it's innerds start shrinking so you have this vacuum trying to wet down your wheel bearings.

If you have a good grease, it will stay with your bearings, coating them and isolating them from any water that tries to attack. Additionally, if you have something like Bearing Buddies, which are spring loaded, when the vacuum occurs, the disc in the BB moves into the vacuum and helps to keep the water out.

I use the rubber protective boot over my BB's and inspect the piston periodically. I like to run mine half way between all the way in and all the way out. Don't want too much pressure on the bearings because you can blow the inner seal and in doing so, you loose your protection and make one heck of a mess on the inside of your wheel and tire. BTDT

Also, periodically, I jack up the trailer and spin the tire listening to and feeling the bearing for silent, smooth operation. Can save a disaster on the highway.

I do run bearing buddies with the caps on them and the grease I showed in the post is what I use.

I want to know if this will also work good for the gimbal bearings and also the u-joints on the outdrive tired of useing different types of grease for different parts. But if I should will do.
we run to Havasu a lot in the summer and temp. is over a 100+ so far never had a wheel bearing problem on the road with this grease. Thanks for the reply...

Use that stuff for all the lubrication needs of the boat. It is the right stuff!

XHP222, or if you prefer food grade phc222 pure synthitc. But that is just a number both high presure, high temp bearing grease.
