Greasing gimbal bearing

Is it OK to hit the gimbal with a few shots of grease while idling on muffs?

That is the proper way...just make sure that the drive is in neutral (safety thing).

Personally, I think the proper way is to have the drive off when you grease the bearing. pump new grease in till you see it coming out of the bearing, turn the bearing and repeat, turn and repeat.
Then clean up all the old grease before it gets spread all through the bellows and all over everything inside the bellows.
Then check your alignment again, grease the splines on the ujoint shaft and install the drive.
Everything is clean and neat.

Yes this method occured to me after I installed the drive for the 2nd time. I did wipe out some old globs that were in there but for some reason I was distracted by the impeller and seal I was installing. I did spin it and it was nice and smooth. Alignment was good and for some reason I just did't lube it while I had the chance. I am a work in progress.
