Not sure how many here have been following this fiasco. I can not wait to get in the voting booth in 2006, A lot of greedy blood suckers are going to lost their jobs.
Everyone I talk to is going to vote out the incumbents, every last one of them!
------------------------------------------------
On July 7, Pennsylvania’s General Assembly increased its own pay by a whopping 16 to 34 percent. This action was taken in the middle of the night, in the form of an amendment attached fifteen minutes before the bill came to the House floor, with no public notice or debate.

For some legislators, the raise itself exceeds $32,000, more than many Pennsylvanians earn in an entire year. This despite the fact that our Commonwealth regularly ranks near the bottom of the heap for economic progress when compared with other states.

To say Pennsylvanians are upset is a gross understatement. Enraged is a more appropriate term. Some citizens even appear ready to take their proverbial pitchforks and torches, march on Harrisburg and chase lawmakers out of town.

Letters to the editor, calls to talk radio and online blogs statewide are dominated by this topic. Petition drives have been started. Lawsuits challenging the pay raise on constitutional grounds are being planned.

But vocalizing outrage only vents our anger. Petitions, when delivered to lawmakers, will likely be ignored. The outcomes of lawsuits are in serious doubt in light of state Supreme Court Chief Justice Ralph Cappy’s public praise of the hike as an act of “courage.”

So what options remain for Pennsylvanians? There is only one: fire the legislature. Fire them all. Not two of them, not twenty, but every last member - and the sooner, the better.

But the incumbents have gerrymandered districts in their favor, you might say. They have tons of money, you could add. You only have one vote, you’re thinking. They are simply too powerful.

I beg to differ. Of 253 total seats in the General Assembly, 228 will be up for grabs in 2006. Your one vote, combined with those of thousands - if not millions - of furious Pennsylvanians, is the only useful tool in reversing this egregious decision.

Wildbill I am a member of that site. Things should be very interesting come election time. The only thing is we have to get some viable candidates to run. Just electing anyone because the name is on the ballet is just about as irresponsible as the pay raise.

You Pennsylvanians sure aren't the thankful types are you. Those reps need that pay raise. Like all legislators, they have a hard job. Those folks are constantly having to attend parties, be taken out for dinner, recieve special privledges, and other freebies. It's a hard job when there are constantly people trying to buy your vote for one thing or another. I'm sure they only waited till the last minute to insert the pay raise because they spent so much of their time improving your lives.

That's disgusting,Flahthead!! This is the first mention of their deplorable conduct i have seen, too. For some odd reason, it is not a big enough story for the media to report. This outrages me even more! I aim to research why too.
That is about all i can do from my residence in Florida. That, and root for your cause."POWER TO THE PEEPS!!"

To add insult to injury the raise is not BY LAW not to go into effect till the next election. They got around this by claiming "unvouchered expenses" thus the raise takes effect immediately

Yep that'll work.....only problem is, if they're not a crook when they go in, you can rest assured they'll be one before they leave office.

Only in America... do we use the word "politics" to describe the process so well: "Poli" in Latin meaning "many," and "tics" meaning "bloodsucking creatures."

When I ran for State assembly here in Wisconsin last year I vowed not to take per diems while in office. Do you think it shook up the voters? NO

Not to meet with lobbyists in my state office? NO

People want to be lied to and told how good they've got it and how good it's going to get period.

The guy in there now hopefully will retire in 2006 and I'll have to run as a Repub to get anybody to pay attention as when people ask they only want to know if you're a Dem or Repub.

my campaign

Can't wait for the felony trial of a bunch of our legislators this fall. Public hangings in the Spring I hope.

scandal

Yea, FH, it has me a bit peeved also! The greedy jerks! And you can't blame one party - they are all in it. One of my friends and fellow firefighter is a state rep and I went ballistic on him when I learned he was taking the voucher route! IDIOTS!

FH, this crap is all around us. Why in the world do pols desire to become pols. They know that the "club" mentality of pols will allow them to feed from the trough. They teach this stuff in political science schooling,,......ya know, wink, wink, here is how its done kids.

In the last few years Milwaukee political structure has been shaken, including prison time, for all the graft and corruption of these PIGS SUCKING off the public dollar. My rant has ended now, briefly anyhow.......these blood suckers are very pervasive.

Shortly we will be hearing about fraud, graft, and so forth from the Katrina relief/rebuilding funding. Please all here remember the ongoing investigating of the Oil for Food deal that the UN is busted for. Why is it long ongoing.....because the PIGS SUCKING at the trough want it to be......so we become numbed by the proceedings and loose interest.

Looks like the pressure is getting to them. They repealed the raise and vouchers. I know I emailed my local sen. Still not good enough, they are going out on their ***'s in 2006 when their terms are up, wait and see.

Story here.

The Repeal: Merely a Political Stunt and Legislative Scrambling
ANNVILLE, PA [11.04.05] - With both chambers of the Pennsylvania General Assembly taking action to repeal the July 7 pay raise, PACleanSweep is joining media outlets throughout the Commonwealth in rightly labeling the sudden repeal effort a political stunt.

"The pay raise repeal passed because legislative leaders are running for their political lives," said PACleanSweep Chair Russ Diamond. "They were caught with their hands in the cookie jar, and they know it. This is a textbook example of political posturing and desperation."

An article in Wednesday's Lancaster New Era cited two sources within the Capitol who claimed Senate Majority Leader David "Chip" Brightbill and Senate Pro Tempore Robert Jubelirer were behind the sudden push for a partial repeal "after polls showed their approval ratings plummeting." Brightbill's internal polls showed his approval rating at a dismal 17 percent. Thursday's Philadelphia Inquirer added that repeal efforts took hold "when the first samplings from a statewide poll commissioned by the Senate Republicans came in."

"It doesn't take a genius to realize that Brightbill, Jubelirer, and others saw their approval ratings going down the drain and then flip-flopped to curry public favor," argued PACleanSweep Strategic Director Mike Bergmaier. "They weren't motivated by principle. They were motivated by fear."

PACleanSweep maintains that efforts to deflate citizen anger over the pay raise should be ignored and that voters should continue to push for reform. Diamond had previously predicted that legislators would take action to appease voters, even speculating they would repeal the raises in an August 22 speech to the Pennsylvania Press Club and a September 12 guest column in the Allentown Morning Call.

"The September 26th Harrisburg rally was themed 'Repeal, Repay, Reform, or Resign'," Diamond noted. "Even if this repeal does go through, it is only the beginning of fixing what's wrong in Harrisburg. They need to repay the ill-gotten and unconstitutional expense money already taken. Reform the legislative process. Abide by the Constitution. Install new legislators and leadership. Eliminate the offensive slush funds."

"When a child is caught with his hand in the cookie jar, putting some of the cookies back is simply not enough," added Diamond. "We need to move the cookie jar to a higher shelf so they can't reach it. We need to remind them of the rules - the PA Constitution. And we need to discipline them in 2006."

i hope you get the numbers to knockem off their pedestals. that is unreal. i wish we had some write-in choices on the presidential ballots - like reducing all senate & house pay by 30% and killing their gov pycks once they've lost their seat.
