Green corrosion on spark plug wire?

2 stroke 99 Merc 25 hp.

2 cylinder but one plug wire going into the head has corrosion on the brass connector clip.

Could this indicate a problem.

Note: The other wire is clean and plugs are both burning at same light brown color on the electrodes.

I asked about this in another thread with no response as yet! So I'm asking again.

thats usually just normal corrosion. i had it on almost every single wire for my motor.

Re: Green corrosion on spark plug wire?

Thx for the response. That's a relief. What worried me was only "one" was corroded. The shot of dielectric into the hole on only the corroded wire seemed to me that it might be trying to cover up a bad wire connection issue. The other wire might have actually been brand new and replaced. Might have been trying to over ride a misfire issue when I saw the glob of dielectric ooze, I would guess.

Seems Merc is the predominant brand on this forum from previous poles yet no one responded to my question about the plug wire connection corrosion.

I can only conclude from this is that Merc's by the numbers are so problematic free that no Merc owner can respond because they have never seen those types of issues.

Good reason I guess to only "buy" a Merc wouldn't you say???

Or every one is out fishing and boating.

That was 3 different questions I posed in the Merc forum yet you were the only one who responded.

Thank the Lord that this 99 rig we just bought came with a Mercury on it!

That'll elicit a response :D :) :D

haha.

well the other thing to do too if it worries you, carry a spare wire with you incase it ever gives you trouble. OR just replace it. but i really wouldnt think too much about it. if its a coated metal, it can come off and obviously get all gunked up.

Re: Green corrosion on spark plug wire?

rtpassini, I cleaned it up pretty easily with some light sanding and mineral spirits. Actually both coil holes had dielectric compound in them. Is this OK to use. I cleaned up both and I have a tube of dielectric to put back on the coil ends if it's needed. Do you think it's necessary to use it?

dieletric is ALWAYS a good idea. its added security.

i know for cars and motorcycles a lot of people recommend putting it in EVERY plug to prevent a bad current

Re: Green corrosion on spark plug wire?

Received the Seloc manual yesterday. Re: dielectric. Says to give the inside of the spark plug boots a light coating to prevent the boot from sticking to the plastic where you push the wire into the coil.

The metal electrode part should not have any dielectric on it. I thought this would be the case.
It looked like the last person to work on this motor just squirted it into the hole.
