Grounding of Battery in Aluminun Boat

I have a 15' Alumacraft Jon Boat with a 25HP Mercury. I read recently where someone was reccomending grounding the negative terminal of the battery to the boat. He said this was especially important when used in salt water. Is this correct? Any opinions on this? Supposedly, this would reduce chances of galvanic corrosion on the aluminum. My motor is manual start and my battery is a Group 27 Deep Cycle used for lights, trolling motor, bilge pump, and fish finder. Thanks for any replies.

Actually it would be difficult to NOT ground it. The motor is grounded to the neg. The motor is clamped to the aluminum transom. So.....

Motor ground needs to, be common with the hull.Even if you have to run a seperate wire.
However never use the hull as the ground side of a circuit allways run to a common ground terminal.Sensitive devices need their own wire direct to the battery.
