Re: grounding spark plug (wires) HOW!!!

this is what i do, some plumbers tape or a door hinge works just as good, get some 1/4 bolts 2 1/2 inchs long and run them the holes bolt them down, now take a wire and put it under one of the bolts so it makes contact with the base of what ever you use and take the other end of that wire and secure it to the engine block now plug in your spark plug wires to the bolts that are sticking up and now youre grounded

If you are just doing a comp check u do not need to ground the plugs. Just make sure the safety lanyard is unhooked.

Thats a safety switch. Not all motors have that.
I took 3/4ft of #10 wire.I use a #4 copper battery cable connector.I strip about 1/2" and put all 3/ ends in the #4 connector.I smased it down so they won't get out.
Then I stripped the other end about 3/4" and folded it back. That end I put in the plug the other I use to ground it out.You can use a spring clamp (like on a test light)too.J

If your boat has one it will be on the dash or on the control box, its just a clip that goes over a little button with a wire of somesort and another clip. It is incase you are thrown outta the boat it kills the ignition. The easy way to ground them is just wrap some stranded wire around each plug and twist them together and use somesort of alligator clip and attach to a bolt on the motor block.

couchise you can also leave the ignition switch off so the ignition will not fire...then get a set of jumper cables and hook it to the big red wire on the solenoid and then hook it to the starter. You'll bypass the solenoid so you will not need the ignition on.

Jason so all i do is hook up the jumper to the red wire going to the starter, and where does the negative go? then i take out all the plugs and wires and do my compression test???
