My Mom's Glumpkies (grandmas recipe) are really good. They are cooked on top of the stove in liquid with sauerkraut added instead of baked. She calls it stuffed cabbage.

Ron, They are a meat and rice mixture wrapped in a steamed cabbage leaf. And then cooked or baked. Sometimes with tomatoes or sauce.

Re: Guesses anyone?

LF, I dont have a good recipe for cabbage rolls. My family only makes them once a year for Christmas dinner, and its always my grandma making them. I wish I new how to make them though, they are incredibly tasty.

Now, there is a problem with the goulash recipe, as I am sure many of you who have these family recipes, there is no mention of quantities or measures of any kind. To make you it, you really have to be there when someone else does. Its all based on a "add to taste" methodology. It took me at least 10 tries to get it the way I remember it tasting when my grandma used to make it.

In a nutshell:
onions sauted in butter
add majoram and paprika and chicken
cook till brown, cover with water/ simmer
remove chicken
add half and half, and some flour to thicken

Re: Guesses anyone?

I put a can of cream of celery soup in mine instead of the flour and I never used majoram, I'll try that next time. Thanks. I have never threw any Paprikash away because there is never any leftovers.I also serve mine with boiled dumplings. Pony, if you stirred the pot before you took the picture it would look light and creamy, correct?

If I had stirred it, it would have been lighter yes.......it would all look like the lightest parts in the picture that I took. If that makes sense.

Yeah it never goes to waste in this house either. the bread dumplings are my favorite part i think. cream of celery soup sounds interesting

I think some of the best recipes are the ones where the ingredients arent measured.

Very true Pony. I wish I could give you all my recipe for lasagna or chilli or minestrone soup but it would be impossible. Half the time it depends on what is in the cupboard :D

haggis and tatties are easy: just Google for sheep entrails

Current Scottish delicacies include deep fried Mars Bars and deep fried Pizzas :D

talking of which, I'm getting hungry, better go and deep fry my cornflakes

shucks now you got me embarassed Pony cos I have to admit that I've never tried them :(
Tis only because I don't like Mars Bars normally.
Folks I've spoken too can't get enough of them. The bars are dipped in batter and then deep fried

On another topic............I wonder why Scotland is almost at the top of the worlds cardiac problem charts ;) :D :p

I'd be willing to bet Wisconsin compares quite well to Scotland........After all we live on fish fries, beer, and sausages
