I swapped for a suzuki DT30 on a SeaNymph FM161, took it out for an initial test run and was disappointed in the power. Changed the plugs, made sure the throttle was opening all the way, made sure the advance plate moved with the throttle. Took it out again today and it was worse than ever. Wouldn't pull an ailing ladyy of the evening off the bidet. Seems to get too hot, has a brand new impeller and is peeing like a race horse. Does this motor have a thermostat? I am about ready to take it off and put a 25HP Johnson on the boat - I am that discouraged.
Thanks

Re: Gutless DT30

My 1986 DT30 has plenty of power. I also have a 1987 25hp Johnson and the Suzuki is 2-3 mph faster with a little more torque.
Clean or rebuild the carb and make sure its firing on both cylinders.
If your boat is on the heavier side an 11 pitch prop is probably best but a prop with the wrong pitch wouldn't cause your problems.

Re: Gutless DT30

Boat probably weighs around 500 or 550. Only me in the boa, 235 lbs. Just never gets the job done. Good compression, good spark to both cylinders, new impeller, motor seems to get hotter than it should. It pees water quite well at higher rpms but not much at idle. I can ease the throttle forward very slowly and feel the motor begin to pick up, then it just says - screw this, not going any faster - and kind of maintains. I am going to get another impeller and change that again, maybe it got damaged during installation or something. I will check the plugs and compression again and try one more time. Is there a Thermostat on this motor? Where do I find it?
thanks

Ailing Lady of the evening off the bidet ? Lol. Remove your prop and check the splines. They are rubber and go to hell. Especially if the idle is right.

Yes, it does have a thermostat and also a good idea to check if it is working properly, the thermostat cover is on the font on the cylinder head, also see the parts diagram www.brownspoint.com ....
