Hey -- being in IT... do you ever get the feeling that people rely on you TOO much? I've been working in IT-related jobs since I was about 16ish (my dad owns a consulting firm) and I have been at my current employer for about 5 years now... and it has never been this bad.

I actually had a user send me an email yesterday asking if I could add two websites to their favorites. I think that was the final nail in the coffin and made me realize this.

Re: Hailing VIPZACH

I just had a woman here in the office call and say something is wrong with her computer. So I go down to her office to check it out. She shows me that her computer won't play a movie she is trying to watch. I told her that if it isn't work related, I can't help her. Somedays, I think "do any of you people have a mind of your own?" Then I remember that I am the network admin because I am good at it and that guy is good at his job and I couldn't do what he is doing.

I try and give my users a quick explanation on how to do really simple things and then make them learn for themselves. Almost always, they will call later and say "that was so easy and will help me alot!"

I support about 70 people here in our office and we have employees all over the world, that I help support. Somedays, I don't have time to show someone how to add a web address to the favorites list. So yes, sometimes the questions I get asked seem ridiculous, but I enjoy my job. I have been doing this for about 3 years.

Everybody wants to work, until they have a job.

Hell anytime I call on the Helpless desk (got to go through them to get to IT) they tell me to fix it myself! Not a problem since I maintain the hardware for some 4000 units. But they get paid for it :D
