Half-dead warning module?

On my engine (1993 Merc. 60hp 3 cyl. ser.0D074327) the selt-test horn that usually beep when i first place the remote switch on the "run" position quit working.

I know that the warning module is activated by the overheat sensor (stedy beep) or low-oil sensor (intermitent beep). I then remove the overheat sensor from the block (tan/blue wire) and ground it: steady beep so it works and the horn itself in the remote control also. After this, I disconnect and place a jumper cable between the two blue wires that goes from the warning module to the low-oil level and nothing happened.

Do i test it right? I think it is supposed to beep this way. And it is possible to have a half-dead module? If so, i can live with this by simply regulary looking at the oil level, like i've always do.

Thanks.

Re: Half-dead warning module?

"1997 and Prior Models" (per the service manual):

Disconnect low oil sensor leads (blue -2 ea) between oil tank and warning module.

With ohmmeter between blue leads going to sensor, 1/2 tank or over is zero ohms (thereabouts), empty is infinity (thereabouts).

"If tests fail, float could be stuck whereupon they say that a magnet on bottom of float may have come loose."

If you pass this test then yes your module could be bad as there are two separate inputs to it's circuitry; tan for heat and blue for oil.
