You can get a mounts for your hand helf GPS. That way you can take the GPS out of the boat and use it in your vehicle, hiking, or what ever.

Thanks for the reply ricksrster.<br />I been thinking about the convenience of having a hand held.<br /> I dont ice fish, hunt or do much hiking. The hand held is a nice option price wise. <br /><br />I wonder are they almost as nice as a fixed mount and do they work as well or is it better to save the extra $ for the bigger fixed mount?<br /><br /> Anyone have experence with both?

The real difference between a hand held and fixed is screen size and how portable it is. I have seen both the H2O C and the M68 C.<br /><br />The H2O C has a very bright screen and comes with a lighter power plug. It also takes memory chips if you want to upgrade the maps. Has a much better base map than Garmin and the screen is 200 percent better than garmin. Runs on AA batteries. Advantage over the M68 C is screen is brighter, you can use it in your car or take it hiking, biking.<br />Disadvantage screen smaller 2.83 inches M68 C is 3.5 inches.<br /><br />M68C advantage is bigger screen as noted above. Has a depthfinder built in and also has a great base base map.<br />Disavantage screen not as bright, does not take any chips if you want to upgrade maps. Has no batteries.

Hope I did not mislead you as lowrance has many fixed big screen units with great sunlight viewable screen that are very bright. The M68C is not one of the brighter screens.<br /><br />One thing that I really like about about the M68C is it's points of interest markers.<br />As an example I have fished an area North of San Francisco (Bodega Bay) every year since 1980 and learn slowly many fishing locations and there name. You won't find these names and locations on a chart. You will here people talikng about a spot and ask where is that spot and most will give you a general idea where it is, Like about 10 miles south of Bodega Head. Well all the spots I have herd of and never been able to locate are on the M68C base map. Actually even on the downloadable simulator. Places I had figured out are also on there. Now if I here someone talking about McClures beach I know where it is.
