Re: Harbor Freight HVLP Spray Gun Info

Purple has it's place as you say. I used it, with a 1,000 cc cup to spray the siding on my Daughters "Flip" house. It worked GREAT!! Turned the pressure way down, overspray was minimal and coverage was great with the 1.8 tip using good old Rustoleum!!!

Funny you mentioned this . I was going to get your opinion on painting my sil's aluminum siding using the hvlp .
Prep ? tsp wash , self etching primer ? The paint is just faded out but no corrosion . :joyous:

If the siding is pre-primered like most of it is then I'd TSP wash it, then Shoot it with Rustoleum or Majic Tractor Paint W/Hardener. He won't be Painting it again for a LONG Time!!!! If it's not Primed or has bare spots then yep use some SE on it and then some Bare Metal Primer. Get a 1000 CC cup and you can shoot a long time. With a 1.8mm tip I only thinned with 1/4 cup of MS per quart. It covered GREAT on Pre Primed Hardboard siding.

Re: Harbor Freight HVLP Spray Gun Info

WOG, I finally watched your entire video now and I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for taking your time to make and provide us with some of the flaws presented with the HF paint guns. I know it took longer then the time showing and I appreciate it.

Having taken a lot of paint guns apart now for both servicing and general cleaning, all I can say is you do get exactly what you pay for... I am glad I spend a little more money for a better manufactured, machined, and finished gun kit... But those HF guns are what they are...

So many things that really shocked me with that gun and its assembly. I find it very interesting that they painted the inside threaded section of the mixing chamber for one huge thing. The paint you are spraying can dissolve and mix with that paint inside and be sprayed out with the finish you are spraying at the time. And that black plastic ring section between the nozzle section and the body of the gun was of interest too. Other guns have no such part. While similar designs are used in other guns, the final machining is so much better in other guns that they don't even need Teflon tape or any "O" rings to fix and seal perfectly. So what HF may be doing is taking the rejects off the much higher quality line and repainting them and gooping a silicone type sealant on any threaded portion and ship them out...

But once again thanks for your time and some fixes to try and make those guns usable...
