I have a johnson JRCED30 o/b recently I removed the pull starter and flywheel and it took quite a bit of banging to finally remove the flywheel after having a puller attached for many days. I have now reassembled the motor and the pull cord is very difficult to use, feels like hydro locked, I removed plugs and it pulls fine, I also now noticed at the very bottom of the engine there is black gasoline exiting from the propeller housing and dripping down the skeg. any helpful ideas. Thanks

Re: hard pull

I would say you're on the right track, it's probably flooded. Just leave the plugs out (unplug the fuel line) and pull it thru until the fuel is out of the cylinders. Then reconnect the fuel and if the carb isn't flooding over it should start as normal. It may need new plugs.

Re: hard pull

i removed pull starter and flywheel and found the woodruff key was slightly sheared, definitely needs replacement. Did the key shear because of hard pull or was it hard pull because the key sheared?
Can I use any generic key for replacement or are marine keys another animal?
Gotta get this engine working before end of summer, I know it's just small stuff holding me back.
Please all ideas welcome and thanks, remember Jesus loves you all.
