Rebuilt carb at end of last year. Started on 1st or 2nd pull. Went to take it out earlier and wouldn’t start. Pulled carb and found a tiny piece of trash on the air/fuel mixture screw. Sprayed carb out, all orifices, put it back on still hard start. I’m lazy so when working on it I keep the drill with a 7/8 socket and start it that way. Spins a few times and runs like a champ. Will idle until I cut it off. Just purrs. Gets pretty warm but not boiling hot. I’ll mist the water jacket cover and nothing happens. I can put my fingers on head for a few seconds and not get burnt. Hurts but not burnt.

95 psi on both cylinders (harbor freight tool).

Like I said. Once runny it’s flawless. At idle it’ll go in gear and chug along. No issues. If I cut it off and pull rope starts first pull. If I give it throttle it’ll smoke (see video). If I let it sit for 20 30 min it will not start with the pull rope. Put drill on it and in a few revolutions it fires up.

It’s my son and Is project and I really want him to enjoy this … I’m tempted to cut a hole in top, put a hinge on the piece cut out, buy him a rechargeable drill and cut him loose.

What’s my options. I *think* I hear a like slop in the engine but maybe it’s normal?

Motor has not run for 30 min. Pulled rope fired for just a sec. Pulled rope a few times and nothing. For grins and giggles one quick shot of starting fluid and it fires right up. Fuel pump?

If you set the idle mixture screw TOO LEAN. It will not want to restart easily when warmed up.

If I don’t choke it it’ll fire just long enough to burn off what’s in the cylinder I guess. Hand pump? Squeeze the bulb or a shot of starter fluid?

Can the Ignition System provide a Spark strong enough to Jump a 3/8" Gap, on both Cylinders?
Upper Crankshaft Seal, if Leaking, can make for a cranky Motor

I’ll pull plugs tomorrow while running and test theory
Running in both. Oddly, pulled one plug off and it still ran but poorly. Put it back on and pulled 2nd it still ran bad but not as bad as 1st. It’s strong enough spark to find my finger and ark to my other hand resting on the motor. Home made defibrillator.

Squeezed bulb, pulled choke crunk in 2nd pull after firing on first pull. Pushed in choke pulled rope fired right up. Thus thing is making a liar out of me.

When pulling plug wires off the change should be the same on both cylinders.----Perhaps change the diaphragm on the fuel pump.-----Cheap fix and easy to do.----I have diaphragms on hand because I do not buy new fuel pumps.
