I replaced the Stator and Trigger on my 1985 Mercury 75 H.P. engine due to corroding wires. The engine was hard starting and rough idling before the new stator and trigger and I thought rather than splice I would get new Stator & Trigger. It Still is running Rough and hard to start.
I found TDC of piston #1 and the pointer on the fly wheel timing mark is on the zero.
I noticed when trying to start it the transparent fuel filter was low,,as in below the inlet and outlet ends,I had to keep priming the bulb to keep the gas to where it would be at a level to run in and out of the filter,I took the front cover off and turned the carb adjustment a quarter a turn or so to close it and it seemed to run smoother but it went up on Rev's so I turned them back to where they were till I could get some more info.
Any Help would be appreciated,,,thanks,,Mike

Mike, usually a hard to start engine is lean and not rich, I think you might try adjusting the idle mis but remember it must be done warm in gear, you may speed it up or slow the RPM with the idle stop screw on the throttle arm. The way you describe the problem you may have to clean the carbs.
