hard steering (cable removal)

have a 1985 starcraft ss with a teleflex rack system.50hp. vro evenrude. was going to replace system with a new cable and could not remove cable from the motor.(not enough room to pull it out) will i have to move the motor over? anyone have this problem?

Yea you will have to pull the engine from the transom. You can leave all your electrical and throttle and shift cables hooked up. Just hang the engine from a hoist and unbolt. This will give you enough movement to work your steering cable free and will aid in re installation of the new cable. Unfortunately this is the case with most small boats.

Yep I pulled my boat under a tree and used a come allong to lift the motor off the transom. Cleaned everything up did my repairs and made sure to reseal all the bolt holes. Trees come in handy.
