Hi all! I have a question about my 1978 chrysler 140. Im haveing a problem getting it to turn over after it has set awhile, if it has not run in a day or so it doesn't whant to spin over. I have a brand new starter on it and a good battery. but i just will not spin over it will just barley turn the flywheel and after a few tries it will seem to get better and turn over faster and finaly start. then once it starts and i run it for a few minutes it will start back up and spin over just fine. I don't know what could be causing this to happen/ its got a new headgasket and 4 new plugs in it. it acts like its a dead battery but its not because its a brand new battery with 845 cca. and its fully charged. Please Help.

I'm not familair with your perticular motor, but sounds to me like you may have corrison. Check the ground wires on the block make sure they are tight and corrison free. Also do this for wires going into your starter seloniod, the starter, and most of all your battery. This may not be your problem, but I think it's a good place to start.

It sounds like you may have a voltage drop when cold check all of you connections to your starter. Also manually turn the engine over when hot and cold just to see if its a tight engine when cold.

Remove the plugs and see if it spins freely.
Then while the plugs are out do a compression test.
A new starter can be faulty.
Check the brushes for sticking or weak springs.
Like the others said, bad connections or even a bad solenoid.
