When I first drop the boat into the water it fires right up, but after running around for a while it's really hard to re-start. Is there any reason for this? The impeller was changed at the end of last season & I do have a tell tail on it with a nice strong flow. The water coming out of the tell tail is warm, not hot so I guess everything is fine as far as that go's. Does anyone have the same type of problem? It will fire after several tries, but I get worried when I shut it down when I'm out in the middle of the lake. Any idea's?
EDIT: Sorry, it's a 1985 Force 85 hp O/B

Could be the float levels are wrong. You might need to use the fast idle or even choke it.
What is the idle set at? In gear and warm.J

Re: Hard to re-start when hot

Im having a very similar problem. Boat starts right up. I run is for 20min or so. Once I turn off the engine, i know its not going to start again til tomorrow. I turn the key and I hear a click (the choke). Thats it. No starting. Next day, starts right up and runs well. (no overheating alarm and water is spitting fine. battery good)

Can you tell me how to test and/or adjust the float levels?

Re: Hard to re-start when hot

I am having a simular problem, The boat will start just fine with muffs but when i put it in the water it will not start. Today i took it out and started it out of the water and quickly backed it in. After running for nearly and hour i desided to come back and go home. Just for fun when i got it on the trailer i shut it off and waited several seconds, checked the gas ball and tried to start and all it did was crank. This boat is new to me and infact is my first one. I have tried two different batteries and neither one made a diifference. This whole starting thing has kept me from shutting down to let my kids swim....and we know how the trip can get sour if the kids are not happy!

Maxxie, your float levels are set too high. After you shut the engine off, the powerhead temp goes up and this causes the fuel to boil into the intake. This causes an overly rich mixture in a hot engine. If you are handly, you can buy a Clymer manual and adjust them.

Or the fuel pump is leaking into the powerhead .
