hard to start

hello everyone.
just joined today seems a nice forum and i stay in bonnie scotland.
any way to the problem, i have a evinrude 25hp 1974.
it takes about 50 pulls to get it to start also when finally it does start put the throttle to full revs dont pick up as they should i get some quick short bursts from it then after a couple of minutes the engine will go to full throttle.

What is your starting procedure, step by step?

Once running, does it restart without issue? What type of fuel tank are you running? Is this a new motor to you, or have you had it a while and this issue just started?

i have had this engine for a few years now and this problem has been ongoing for some time.
start up, choke full out throttle open so the two marks on the flywheel align with the mark below.
fuel 50/1 plastic moulded 20 ltr fuel tank.
starts no problem when warm

I don't have your exact motor but for mine, those marks on the flywheel signify the point where the butterfly throttle just starts to open up. Do you not have START marks on the grip? If not, if you have a neutral stop, open the throttle to that point and try it again. I doubt your motor is getting much gas, the way you are doing it.

I also suggest that you check your hose and carb mounting bolts for looseness, does the fuel priming bulb get hardwhen you pump it up?
Check your plugs for proper gap and change them if they look dirty or old...
These are great motors and run forever with proper care...Good luck!
