Hi! All,
I have a 1959 electric start (also pull rope) 35 HP Johnson that turns over hard. If you remove plugs turns over easily. I have never had her running but it looks in really great shape. Even turning over with the electric start it turns hard. Can anyone tell me what the problem might be? Thankyou in advance. John

Those things are a bear to pull start. If it's turning over slow with the electric start, could be a weak battery or a weak starter, corroded wiring.

I had this problem and it was corroded connections. Try cutting a couple inches off the cables at the battery. They were all corroded green inside the insulation.

After you check all your battery connections and cables have your battery load tested at your local parts house.

And after you've done all that and it still won't crank fast, remove the elec. starter, disassemble and grease the shaft bushings. My 90 HP Force did that and no more problems after greasing them.

Jusst want to thank you guys for the info. You guys are probably right on corroded wiring. It sat for 4 years. Will start checking wires tomorrow. Thankyou so much. John
