Re: HardDrive Cloning?

Several issues...

You can clone the hard drive. I've used Norton Ghost, others like Acronis, and there are other programs, too.

Those usually do logical partitions (Drive C:, drive D:, etc). Some may do physical drives that may or may not contain multiple partitions.

Before you do this, particularly if you've got business data on it, be sure to make at least two copies of all your critical programs and data.

While it may be easier to clone the drive, in the long run it might be a lot better to install a clean copy of the OS and your programs. Windoze is infamous for accumulating a lot of junk on your hard drive over time, and a clean install every so often can really help. Considering you will probably be upgrading the disk size substantially, this may be an advantage, too.

Finally, consider moving your data to a USB or external drive instead (or at least as a first step). Once you can use your programs accessing data on the USB drive, you may not need to do much else. Or it can give you the freedom to install a clean copy of everything.

Dude, that box is vintage.
Go to Tiger Direct, spend 2 or 3 bills on something made this millenium, put your old hard drive in the new box then copy you program over.

Got several boxes sitting around but this one seems bullet proof. It stays on 24/7 and never misses a beat. I subscribe to the 'if it ain't broke' crowd.

Fact is, it has worked for so long now, I'm gonna ride it out and see how long it will go. I do back up everything so if it dies I won't be left high and dry.
