Really simple question and hoping for a simple answer. Will I have any issues if I hardwire my Quicksilver control box to my 1986 Mariner 40? I don't need to know how right now, but would like to know so I can start looking for a new one if I can't. My control box does not have the tilt switch but I have one I will be wiring in.

Thanks!!

Re: Hardwire control box..

You do realize that if you cut the connector off the engine side of the harness you take considerable value off the motor. Nobody wants to have undo what you are about to do and that includes a dealer if you ever intend to trade this boat. That said, as long as you have the functions for each wire matched up you can hard wire it. Note that I said FUNCTIONS and not COLORS. Just because the colors may be the same on both sides of the connector is no guarantee the FUNCTION of that wire is the same.

Re: Hardwire control box..

The previous owner had already cut the engine harness, I only paid $300 for the motor in perfect shape except for that, it runs great, new impeller, rebuilt carbs, great compression, great tank test. I have some controls that I was going to cut the end off and match up function, I just wanted to make sure that it can be done without issues. If anyone has any diagrams I can go by it would be greatly appreciated....

Actually one more question, I don't want to cut my Quicksilver harness if it is not the right one. Does anyone know if this motor uses Merc or Yami control box? It is a Japanese made Mariner....
