Re: Has any noticed that the wardrums are booming again?
Diplomacy doesn't work? I'm glad no one listened to you folks during the cold war with the Russians.

Diplomacy may well not work in this case, but at least you have to try. All the intel I have seen says Iran is years away from having a nuke weapon.

Has anyone seen Newt's theory on dealing with the UN? It deserves an honest debate, at least.

He basically says that there are things the UN can be effective in, and other things it can't be. And there are times, when there is a lot at stake, where we should simply ignore the UN process, and go directly to the developed nations of the world (The G-8 or some such) and work out a common agreeable solution where all the members can ultimately speak with one voice (and one action)

If you look at the basic problem, there is no developed nation that fundamentally gains when Iran (or North Korea, for that matter) aquires nukes, and while each nation may have individual differences they want addressed, it is in every developed nations self interest that Nukes be stopped from expanding...

Now it may well take a skilled negotiator, sensitive to the needs of others, and it probably best be handled somewhat privately and not with a flamethrowing speech at some neo-con conference, and it will be difficult, no doubt...but it is at least worth a try, and always better than the non-stop flights of cargo planes into Dover carrying body bags...
