Has anyone ever tried to make their own furniture?

I need some furniture on my 20'er and could make them with 2x2's and 1/4 in ply but figure it would rot where it sat on the deck. Has anyone else tried making furniture with good results? If so, how? thanks.

Steve, that is the way toon furniture has be made for years, just allow a space at the deck so you do not have direct contact. use a plastic spacer between the deck and seat base. using exterior plywood with a couple of coats of oil base paint. then cover it. when in storage and covered open your seats. the trick to stopping rot, and mildew is ventilation.

What kind of plastic spacer?

I was thinking of covering the plywood with I/O rug but wasn't sure if that would trap moisture or not.

And I do open my seats in the winter.

Steve, many lumber stores are carrying the PVC, trim in their molding sections. just buy a 1x4 length, and cut 1x4x4 blocks and attach the bottom on your bases, this keeps the contact, away from carpet, that always stays wet in the areas. and allows ventilation for the boxes.

I often thought I would turn the boat into a "deck" Simply use furniture like you would find on your deck.A porch glider, folding chairs, molded plastic chairs garden benches,Umbrella tables etc etc.Secure each to a plywood base to make them stable but allow rearanging.Perhaps even interlock the plywood bases for even more stability.

I had thought of those options also but really like the storage area under the boxed built seats. You can put all the PFD's, battery, oil, tools etc under the seats so I find them really handy.
