I'm scheduled to be "locked up" on December 16th for the annual Muscular Dystrophy Association. Its a great organization, but I need advice on how to raise money. I'm not really allowed to do any fundraising at work since we currently have a United Way fundraiser in progress, and I'm way behind on meeting my quota. If you've ever done this before please give me some tips!!!

Don't know what your quota is but i did it once.

I mainly asked neighbors for a donation.

It didn't matter what the amount was per say.

They just come in and ask you to come with them.

You can refuse if there is a problem at work. i told them to come back on the second trip as i had a car on the lift. You can call from "downtown" and try to get donations. Like i said the procedure might be different someplace else but they never put me in the "CELL".
Was there a couple of hours.

I have fished several MDA benefit tourneys. Ask the Florida Bass Federation for help putting together an event. 70% of the entry fees go to the payouts and 30% go to the charity.

Thanks for the advice. I was quite impressed with the amount of info MDA sent out to help you get started. They even have a website you can set up, and I was pretty amazed at how they used your information to incorporate it into a mock news update. It was quite funny. My lock-up is on the 16th, so I think I still have plenty of time to get my "bail" posted. lol.

On a side note, I know a lot of organizations ask for money this time of year. I also know times are tough and some people just can't help out. But if you see those bell ringers in front of a store for the Salvation Army....throw some change in. A few years ago I got to witness first hand how the Salvation Army helps out a community that has been hit with a disaster. They were the first one's in and for an entire month, the fed the community, helped with demo of homes, helped re-furnish homes and were the largest presence of any support during that time. The Red Cross did NOTHING in comarison. So when you see that bell ringer, don't get annoyed. Just know that whatever money you put in there will go to help someone out in possibly their darkest hour.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!
