i found this while searching about for a belly tank on the net, and it looks like it saves space, should be simple to install, and is much larger than the 2 6 gal tanks that were to be placed on the rear of the pontoons that i removed the holders for and covered with a cabin. anyhow has anyone tried one of these, or know anything about them?

i am hoping for some input, prior to spending $150 to get it and try it. If no one has tried it, I am likely to give it a shot and will report back, the results when 1st installed and then when if fails or a yearly report that it is still happy and going strong.

I think most Tracker brand pontoons have those type gas tanks.

The biggest issue.... will it fit on your pontoon? Not all toon's have the same transom dimensions. A tank like that would have to be the correct dimension for a good install.

Works great for me on my Sun Tracker. I got a 45 gal tank that is totally out of the way.

My Tracker PB 20 has that in the 42 gallon variety. Filled it once.

We have had those at Bennington for awhile and they seem to be a popular option, do some measuring first be certain it will fit but if so it should work fine.

Just keep in mind you are doubling the weight of the gas on the back of the boat going from 12 to 24 gallons so it will ride a bit lower so be sure you can deal with that.

My toon came with this type of tank. It's been great. With the fuel tank centered, it balances well.

thank you all for your answers, the pontoon in question is a 1988 sun tracker 20ft.... i will take measurements to make sure, I shouldn't have much of a weight issue as she has a tiny 1978 20hp merc on the back.... i am thinking it should greatly extend my range and that weekend trips should be a non issue (i am one of those peeps that likes to keep going up river or across lake until NO ONE ELSE IS AROUND :).
I am really happy to hear people like them it makes spending a bit of what lil coin i have on one much easier to do.
thanks again.

The weight gets distributed across the joists (or whatever they are called on pontoons) and shouldn't be a problem in transit, especially with a 20HP OB out there. Since gas weighs less than water, it's a non factor in there. Full, his 24 gallon tank would weigh about 150 pounds.

ONERC, you may fill that tank in May and not have to fill it again until September :)

I'm going to the marina tomorrow and measure mine. That looks like a good Idea and if someone were trying to steal your gas it may be harder for them to get too. I have a 30 gallon built in but this would really give me a greater cruising distance.

not taking...she was kind enough to give me $200.00 and point out it was "valentines tomorrow" lol.....so i figure i get gas tank...and buy some flowers. I was on the fence between gps/sonar combo and big fuel tank.... i am thinking big fuel tank wins hands down.... the other isn't needed but just nice.

What all do you have to tear up in order to install it?

lol i am not sure on that yet.... maybe i will be lucky and only have to pull engine.... worse case is a few (lots) of pop rivets, and some bolts. I was rather surprised when disassembling the pontoon for new decking how little there was holding the engine.

This really looks like a good Idea, Now how do you put gas in it. ? Does it have a regular gas cap.? My gas tank is a 30 gal one. Could I just gravaity feed it.?I may be a better way to store gas with the prices going up. Now tat I'm the gas subject ,Will you guys put your gasoline in your boats tanks and just leave it there or will you transport it to the boat when you plan on going out for the day.

Does this type tank actually set in the water and act as a 3rd rear pontoon? I need a bigger tank for my 18' Bass Buggy but it already is a little rear heavy with the Merc 75 on it. Especially with 4 or 5 people on board.

No flotation on my setup. Bottom of tank is barely wet at rest. May get some lift from pod when moving, but not much.

A tank full of gas in the water is bouyant.
