I'm looking at an older (1988) Yacht club tandem trailer. I know its old and I plan to go over it really good, but how were they in general? A good trailer or something to avoid?

1988 trailer, old? I dont think so.... 1960 trailer, old? Yep...

A trailer is as good as the frame, bearings, suspension, tires and axle under it allow it to be, whoever made it.

I suspect Yacht built more then 1 spec'd trailer, so depending on what you want to haul w it, if its rated up to the task and is in good towable condition, sure, its s good trailer.

Neglected, rusty, no grease in the bearings w dry rotted tires, nope, not towable, maybe it could be made towable, maybe it cant be made safely towable.

After owning 6 or 7 different trailers of different manufacture, I personally would rate them middle of the road or slightly above. Mine is 11 years old and it has held up better than any other painted trailer I ever owned. Note that I do not go into salt water. I would definately buy another.

I have had one since 2000 for a 20' pontoon and have had no issues with it except occasionally loosing the ground on a light and have to clean it up. They have been around a long time and are still in business. My trailer is 90 miles away and I wanted to order some new bearings. I contacted their customer service online and they promptly sent me all of the part numbers. Something you might want to check is the coupler to make sure that it is functional particularly if it is welded on. I don't know if the locking mechanism is repairable. Maybe someone else can comment about the coupler.
