What do you have in the back of your F150?:p

A bit of levity here. What is the most boring job you can imagine when Portland streets are clogged with deep snow?

Pooperscooping!:D

Actually, the description of what is happening does sound like an airport. Salt is not used on the Airside, and hasn't been for decades, because it corrodes the aluminum airplanes badly. What is usually used as a deicer is urea, and yes, its exactly what you think it is. For this use, the form is that of pelletized urine, which is spread with a sand spreader. Sometimes it is even mixed with sand.

The rubber bottomed plow blades also sound like an airport issue - they are used because standard blades would rip the in-pavement runway and taxiway lights right out of the black top or cement.

You know that Seattle sits between two bodies of water right? You know it's boardered by more than just Puget Sound, right? You know that Lake Washington is a freshwater lake that needs to stay freshwater in order to supply the county's water needs, right? You know that Lake Washington is already getting dosed with salt through the locks, right? You've heard that it's been slowly becoming more saline, and that's threatening the entire water supply for Seattle, right? Of course not. You'd prefer to mis-represent and over-sensationalize programs like this that are designed to protect the county's water supply. I'm not impressed.

OMG, if the logic of Seattle is right, our Great Lakes are in very serious danger of an ecological disaster. Every piece of land around them uses salt to clear the roads. And what about that large salt mine that lies just below the floor of lake Erie? What will happen if the floor of the mine collapses and mixes all that salt with the lake water?

From an outsiders view, it appears that Seattle puts the environment before the health, safety, and protection of their citizens. This is somewhat confusing if one goes by the saying "You cannot put a price on a human life".

You know what I find funny? Checking in to see what aspect of environmentalism gets your panties in a bunch any given day. ;) If you're not whining about global warming, you're moaning about something else that rubs you the wrong way, which can be something as simple as the fact that liberals have the audacity to exist on this earth. You probably complained when they took lead out of gasoline and stopped selling DDT too.

well sir, i am a vet, sworn to uphold the constitution of this great country. and yes i do bemoan liberals/communists/socialists. i value freedom more than anything else that this country has to offer, and i place people first as ordained by the almighty, no one wants to spoil the environment for future generations, but use COMMON SENSE. The assault on our freedoms began in 1964 with the great society. Now before you get your undies in a bunch, i think the idea was made in good faith but the practice enslaved generations to the government. I have seen 1st hand what bad laws can do to people. it takes away the incentive to do whats right and good for family's. My own sister is a product of this. She has never worked a day in her life and has had children that did the same. She now gets free social sec as she is "disabled" do to alcohol and drug abuse. I would have us go back to a 1950's state of laws and programs any day where PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY and family take precedent over government action any day. Sorry to ruin you day, but I am a PROUD american and i know that some of you cannot understand people like me because we will use logic, common sense, duty to preserve our nation. To make laws the punish the freedom of 99% of the people for what 1% do just doesn't make any sense. We will help others without being told to do it. We will almost always do what is right. but, we are human and can make mistakes. there was only one perfect person that ever came to this world, i am not that person.

Enough Gentlemen. Name calling .... finger pointing..... not good.

It is the Holiday season and disrespecting one another is not in the spirit.
