will need model number for yr. of mfg. -- believe the plate would be inside the pan on the lower left, visible with the hood removed. It sounds like you may have a fuel issue. If running off the same tank, may have old or contaminated gas.

But they haven't sat yet for the winter, right? in Wisconsin? in January? (like your optimism).

not sure I'm getting this. Did you recently test the engines, or are you reporting a problem the prior owner said he had last Spring?

yes this is what he had last spring that's why he went and rebuilt everything and they still acted up this yr even after replacing everything so never ran them but im thinking if he left the fuel in the tank and it sat it would cause pore running right ?
also theses have a charging system correct ?

when you get around to running them, start with fresh gas and oil. can't help with the charging system question. Some had alternators, some did not (My '72 55hp did not have an alternator. I think Chrysler showed on the chrome piece on the front of the hood if there was an alternator.) Another lister may be able to tell you what to look for under the hood to determine if there is a charging system -- probably some tell-tale wiring coming from under the flywheel.

Send pictures with the cover off (from both sides) and we can see if you have charging system or not. Attached is my 1970, 35hp Chrysler that might be the same as your 45hp except piston and cylinder bore (basically and no charging sys).

Re: have 2 Chrysler force 45 outboard motor having problem with both doing same thing

The yellow wire is going to your neutral switch, which will not allow the Eng to start unless it is in neutral vs Forward/Reverse. The chart shows yellow is part of the starting sys. Guessing! I would think charging items would be on the list if you had a charging sys (w/o looking at my Clymer manual.

Most of all, I feel I would see something related to charging on that year model as in other Brands. Which I'm not seeing physically or on the chart (Gen, Stator, Etc).

That engine has magneto ignition system and all magneto engines did not have any charging system.
The engines with battery ign.system and they with magnapower CD ignition had a charging system.

If both engines are on the same boat, then have two batteries. If the engines start easily, a single battery per engine will give you all day starting. Recharge overnight. Since they are magneto ignition, if a battery does go dead, you can rope start them.

Re: have 2 Chrysler force 45 outboard motor having problem with both doing same thing

My 1970 Chrysler 35hp has always given me 4-5 good fishing trips starting the eng approx 8 starts on a good charged batt. Warm and a good tune it starts easy usually on 1st manual pull (if a 2nd batt is not havdy).

Nordin, Good Info! I helped on another Brand with a Mag Sys about the same year model that had a belt driven Gen. Now I know why I h/n seen a Gen on 35hp-55hp 70's Mag Chrysler Models.

Re: have 2 Chrysler force 45 outboard motor having problem with both doing same thing

Dave: Chrysler bought West Bend in the early 1960s, renamed the engines and redesigned the cowlings to a cleaner look. In the mid 1980s, Chrysler was forced to sell to Brunswick which renamed the engines Force but initially changed nothing but the decals. After two years they changed the cowlings to dark blue, then black. Later on Brunswick and Keikshaefer combined--I don't remember who bought who but I think Brunswick bought out Mercury-- and the engines were modified to include Mercury components.

So, while all the engines are the same, Chrysler is simply Chrysler while early Force engines are Force and later Force engines after about 1994 are sometimes called Mercury Force since they have Mercury ignitions, controls, and lower units.
