I'm working on restoring a 1990 celebrity. I am very confidant when it comes to motors, outdrives not so much. This boat sat for 10 years with out running. I'm going to pull the 4.3 and rebuild it but I need some info on what to do with the outdrive.

1. What should I replace? I want this done right!
2. What am I missing? I know the lower isn't all there.
3. I have no trim pump any ideas?
4. What gen Alpha one is this?

And Lots of high res pics for you all!

I would be tempted to just buy a SEI unit and scrap the one you have. I bet yours needs a full rebuild. Are you saying there is no trim pump in the boat? They dont go in the drive.

Ayuh,..... I'm with Ivaz,.... Trash the whole Outdrive,+ bolt on a Brand New SEI, Alpha 1....
You have a trashed lower unit that will co$t More to rebuild,... With an Unknown upper...
Call it all parts, or Scrap,+ SEI will sell you a New drive for under $1500....
And a New trim pump for about $300...
I think they deal right here through iboats.com mega-mall.....

Correct there is no trim pump in the boat.

That sucks about the drive. I have to look at SEI anything special I need to tell them?

I have no idea what my gear ratio is any way to tell or time to make it my own?

I take it I will need an install kit and transom seal kit?

In pic #3 of your above post on the left side of the decal is the gear ratio. It looks like 194 R or 184:1 R

So I'm guessing it is standered rotation and because it is a 1990 that its a gen 1.

Standard rotation, 1.94 and yes, it's a Gen I.

I have no idea what my gear ratio is any way to tell or time to make it my own? Looks like Don fixed you up on this one.

I take it I will need an install kit and transom seal kit? They sell an install kit for about $150 I could be wrong, I havent been in their site in a long time.

Unfortunately parts for your existing drive will be expensive and its not something the average joe can rebuild. The aftermarket unit is going to be your best bet. Rebuilding a boat is not cheap.

Re: Have I/O questions about my restore!

Bt, I can't answer your ? but I have a V6 with the 194 ratio. I don't know for sure that it is original to the boat but I believe it is. I've wondered about it as I seldom see anything on the forum about a 194 ratio. The pros that have a knowlege of the numbers in my sig could probable be able to tell what year and if the drive came from a different engine drive package etc. I can say it works well with my boat and I've had no problems with it.

I agree, check with SEI there are several special tools needed to set backlash and preloads on the gearsets and bearings.

You might check with a local boat shop, not a dealer shop, and see if they may have a used drive or maybe used parts to rebuild yours.

It looked to like it was a 1:84R 1:84 ratio R hand drive.

Dont overlook the gimble bearing they need love too. and replacing.

Re: Have I/O questions about my restore!

It's defiantly a gen 1.

The Gen II use bolts instead of studs and nuts.

Your's however is a later gen1 that will take V-8 power. The earlier ones have a little spring loaded pin on top of the vert. drive shaft to preload the bearing, and these will blow easily with too much power.

With shipping and all a new SEI may be about the same as having your's rebuilt. I would check around. Also check for used tilt/trim pump at repair shops.
