Having trouble removing outdrive

92 Alpha One Gen II. I have all 6 bolts removed, gear shift is fully forward. I have the outdrive separated about 1/2 to 3/4" away from the bell housing and so far that is the best I can do. I don't want to mess up anything by prying etc if that is not what I am supposed to do. Any ideas???

Lift the drive up a little(read:a couple of inches) and let it drop to it's limit a few times...it SHOULD "walk" it's way out. Don't use anything to pry it which may damage the gasket surface. A properly aligned/greased assembly should NOT require much effort. Any more, and you need to address these prior to re-assembly.

Why are you removing it?
When was it removed last for service?
If bellows had water, shaft may be rusted a bit to the gimbal bearing.
Reattach the rams, use a wood spacer between the top of the drive and transom, GENTLY operate trim/trailer to push drive off adding more spacing as needed.
You may have collapsed rear motor mounts allowing the motor to squat on the inputshaft.

Thanks to you both. As far as the last time it was removed is probably a joke because I dont think the person I bought it from ever did anything to it. Just ran it till it didn't run anymore and then sold it to me for $800. It didn't even have a blower hooked up or even there, I asked him if he by chance had the anchor light stashed somewhere and he said you don't need one of those to give you an idea. Anyway it's a 92 Bayliner Capri 2051 with the 5.0 and as far as the drive goes i put new seals and entire water pump assembly and added new lube. A bit later lube was coming out of the water intake and what looks like from the bellows, I am not sure. I am nowhere near being a mechanic but I have learned tons from this forum and I am guessing the bellows need replacing and probably the gimbal bearing as well. Sounds kinndof rough inside the engine compartment by the drive shaft when running. I probably need to align it as well since when I got it a "freeze plug" had popped out and I jacked the motor up a lit to replace the one which was from behind the motor mount. Luckily there was no block dammage, but short story long that is why I am removing the drive.

PS, the seals I replaced were only in the lower unit and it is my undertanding I need to replace the oil seal in the upper unit that is most likely the cause of the gear oil leaking

Got it out finally! Definitely needs a whole re-do!!! The what I think is the gimbal bearing fell apart when I reached in the bell housing and turned it with my finger and it turned real rough then started to fall apart, there is gear oil and what I assume is grease in the bottom of the drive bellows, a big mess and a pretty big job ahead of me it looks like. U joints are rusty, so a lot of replacing ahead as well, but glad to get to it so I can get it working right and out on the water! :0)

If you jacked up the engine with the drive still on, then you may have bent the coupler....

I'm afraid you might be right Chris. I did finally get it out but when I went to turn the gimbal bearing with my finger it turned but was a little crunchyish and then it fell apart so I am guessing this might have been why. Crossing fingers that I can do this on my own and put it all back together properly. I ordered the kit that has everything in it so we will see
