HD sunglasses??

I stay away from those types of gimmicks.

Although I used to have a pair of those Amber vision glasses and loved them for driving.

I've found that a really good pair or polarized lenses are indepsensiable both on the water and driving.

Since HighSchool I"ve been wearing Oakleys. Yes they are expensive, very expensive, but the optical quality is AMAZING!!!!! On average I go through a pair every 2 years, so the $200 isn't a huge expense. I highly reccomend them.

Although my brother just found at wal-mart some Berkley polarized sunglasses, with mirrored lenses, for $12 and I gotta say they will give my $195 oakleys a run for their money in terms of clarity and glare reduction. I believe they were the red/yellow orange mirrored ones, because the tinted color you see is slightly blue. Great for the water.

I have worn a pair of those blue blacker glasses and they are pretty cool how they are tinted but actually make things seem brighter.

I have a pair of Wal mart polarized glasses and I like them. I've been wanting to try an expensive polarized pair but don't want to drop the $$ just to satisfy my curiosity.

The funny thing is I would want the HD night driving glasses if they are polarized. As the sun rises and sets it is a great time to fish but my tinted lenses don't work well for low light.

HAHA! Way to reuse old footage, infomercial people. That same video (many segments of it) was used for that exact pair in the 80's, but they were called something else.

I have a pair of Tulliani's and love them. Spending the extra money, in my experience, isn't worth it unless you get actual glass glasses. I had some Revo (glass lens) sunglasses, and they were without a doubt the best sunglasses I'd ever owned. Sadly, all the Revo styles nowadays are just whacked, so it doesn't matter how nice the lenses are.

I test sunglasses in two ways:

- If I squint in them at all, they are garbage. Good sunglasses will protect your eyes even when the sun is directly in front of your car (as long as you don't look directly at it, dummy!).
- Also, if you can see the image in a digital camera, they are not (or really poorly) polarized, as all digital cameras nowadays have a polarized screen, and the two will perfectly block each other out. Test using a Canon, as I know they have quality screens (obviously easiest if you own one or are shopping at a big box store).

It really gets interesting when you ride a motorcycle and your face shield is polarized.. doesn't work, you can't see anything through it with sunglasses on.

I'm a little confused on your discussion of digital cameras. The "screens" are LCDs. Polarizing filters are placed on lenses. While I suppose a polarizing filter could be built into the lens on a point and shoot type digital camera, the setup on a DSLR (digital single lens reflex), would be a function of the lens, not the camera. Frankly, I've never heard of a lense for an SLR or DSLR camera having a built in polarizing filter - they are separate items that screw onto the end of the lense.

No better than the dollar store versions in my opinion. Had a pair of expensive sunglasses a few years ago and they were no better than the polarized ones from the dollar store. I currently have a pair at home, in both vehicles, on the boat, at work and at the cottage. Total investment $6 + tax and always a pair at hand even if I forget a pair somewhere.

I'm a little confused on your discussion of digital cameras. The "screens" are LCDs.

The LCD screen of a good quality digital camera is polarized. They do that to make it anti-glare in sunlight as well as giving it the added benefit of looking crisper. Screens have been polarized for many years. Sony trinitron PC (CRT) monitors were all polarized. You can always tell by the purple hue they have when they are turned off. The laptop I am on is (poorly) polarized, so using it with my sunglasses on will show wild streaking. A decent polarizing job would blank out the screen entirely.

I work in a laser lab and our new laser glasses for "green" lasers are like the blu blockers in that they block blue and make things seem brighter. The old ones were tinted so dark it was hard to see hat you were doing.

So are HD sunglasses just polarized blu blockers? (redundant ?? cause i want an answer)

Interesting and something that I've never thought about. I guess the reason why is that I rarely wear sunglasses and I shoot primarily with DSLR cameras that have true viewfinders. They do have an LCD on the back, but I don't rely on them in bright sunlight, because they are hard to see.

Actually the polarizing is directional. If your sunglasses are vertically polarized and the camera display is horizontally polarized then then you cant see anything because both the horizontal and vertical light is blocked. If both are vertical or horizontal then the image/view is not obstructed.

Try this - Take two pairs of sunglasses that are polarized. Looking through one place the others lens in front of the lens your looking thru and rotate it. It will get to a point where absolutely no light passes.. keep rotating and slowly it will get brighter until the polarization "aligns".

the effect of polarizing is much like that of a rainbow, it has to be a 90 degree angle to the sun to be effective, on a camera lens you rotate the polarizer and you see the f stop drop by 2 and the glare fades, or turn you head, with sunglasses.

Maybe I'm an idiot, but they have a pair for night driving and if those are polarized but not tinted or barely tinted I want a pair for fishing when the sun is rising or setting (not because they are high def). I was thinking about getting some hearing aids that allow me to hear in surround sound

Yup, which is why you don't use them unless needed. They will also do goofy things to your white balance, if you have it set to auto.

outside of offering a quality optically clear lense. I think HD in a glass lenses is a scam promotion, in video electronics it refers to lines of resolution yielding a higher more saturated picture, but you cant do that to the refraction capability of your retina.

I have a pair of $12 polarized glass that work really well on the boat. When I found a defect in one lens (wavy spot), I called the manufacturer, they said mail them back in a plain envelope (yep, they were crushed) and they sent me TWO replacements that were perfect.

I look for polarized lens, heavy duty hinges that are spring loaded, and good padded adjustable nose rests. Thats all it takes to make me happy with eye wear.
