Headache!!

Hey guys I have a Force 125 and have a problem planing off. Here's what I have done to rectify the problem:

-rebuit the carbs
-checked the bulb during high speed and it stays hard
-replaced the fuel filter
-checked the stator and it read within the limits
-installed new plugs
-added a few ounces of stabilizer into gas to combat water in tank

The boat conked out a few weeks ago on the water due to a broken head gasket and the engine getting flooded but ran great before that. It just does'nt seem to be putting out the power it used to and I know my battery is not charging and I'm assuming its the rectifier but what else could it be? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Headache!!

The battery not charging could be the stator. But more than likely it is rectifier. Did you try disconnecting the rectifier to see if that solves the problem? Maybe the wires going to the rectifier are giving feedback into the stator causing a spark issue, not enough power/spark.

just a thought

Re: Headache!!

Just take the lead battery wire off the rectifier and run it?

Yeah, to my understanding is these wires are nothing but charging wires. If the rectifier is bad the current could be feeding back into your power wires for the cdi boxes. All the wires in question come from the stator.

Re: Headache!!

Do a compression test first!!!!.Then check for spark. You didn't mention RPM at WOT. Do those checks and post rpm's. Let us know.Jerry

Re: Headache!!

Disconnect BOTH stator wires from the rectifier and tape them off very well so that they cannot short to anything.

Re: Headache!!

Although the charging and both CD box ignition circuits are on the stator, they are completely separate and discrete circuits with no possibility of feedback. A bad rectifier will cause no or poor battery charging but it will not affect CD operation in any way. It will affect the tachometer reading though.

If you blew a head gasket, there must have been a reason. That makes me suspicious--did you overheat the engine? When you replaced the gasket did you examine all the cylinder bores for scoring?

Like Jerry said, the first thing you need to do is take compression readings on all cylinders. Overheating can cause rings to stick in their grooves and low compression, thus low power.
